REAL CONVERSATIONS COMPANION: DAVID C. BANKS
NOVEMBER ’14: REAL CONVERSATIONS with MELODY FOX
On Strengthening Our Families: Saving Our Sons and Daughters
As President and CEO of Eagle Academy Foundation, David C. Banks is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the Eagle Academy Foundation, which is charged with providing financial support for the academic enrichment programs at the Eagle Academy schools, offering professional development services to educators and administrators that want to effectively engage and teach youth (especially our inner city young men), and expanding and replicating the Eagle model. Through Banks’ leadership, Eagle Academy Foundation has delivered and continues to build with a new vanguard of leadership that has emerged from his tutelage.
Prior to becoming President and CEO of the Eagle Academy Foundation, Banks was the founding principal of the first Eagle Academy in the Bronx, NY. Preceding this, he served as the founding principal of the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, a theme-based high school that provided a unique opportunity for him to combine his law and education background.
A graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ that received his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University, Banks has maintained his commitment to give back to the community from whence he came. He earned his Education, Administration and Supervision certification by attending Brooklyn College, City College and Baruch College in NYC, simultaneously.
Committed to acting locally, but thinking globally, Banks is the author (with G.T. Litchenberg) of the new book SOAR: How Boys Learn, Succeed, and Develop Character—a guide on education and life. While inner city young men have been the focus, the instructions that Banks provides through student narratives and his own personal journey is one for all sexes and ages. His conversation is diverse and layered.
